5 Website Mistakes That Cost Contractors Leads

These five issues show up on almost every trade website we audit. None of them require a rebuild to fix, and each one costs enquiries every week it stays in place.

1. The phone number is not clickable on mobile

The majority of your traffic is on a phone, often standing in a hallway looking at a problem. If the number is baked into an image or is plain text, you have added friction to the easiest conversion you will ever get.

2. No service area anywhere on the page

People do not want to be told you 'service the wider region'. Name the towns and suburbs. It reassures the right customers and quietly filters out the ones who would waste your time.

3. Service pages that are one paragraph long

A single thin page listing every service you offer cannot rank and cannot persuade. Each core service deserves its own page with the process, what is included, and photographs from that specific type of job.

4. Contact hidden at the bottom

If a visitor has to scroll to the footer to find a way to reach you, you have made contact a chore. Repeat the action after every section that builds confidence.

5. Nothing catches the enquiry after hours

Half of enquiries arrive outside working hours. Without an automatic acknowledgement and a place where the lead is visible the next morning, they simply age until someone else calls back first.

Key takeaways

  • Make every phone number a tap-to-call link.
  • Name your service areas explicitly.
  • Give each core service a real page.
  • Repeat your call to action throughout the page.
  • Acknowledge after-hours enquiries automatically.
